collective budget creation
: why : oftentimes, the task of creating an organizational budget falls in the hands of the finance committee, when, in fact, each member of an organization plays a crucial role in creating such an important forecast for the organization. i have found that the more involved members are in creating budgets, the more literate they are in reading financial reports and the more empowered they are to help guide the organization in achieving its goals
: what : the workshop is split into two parts in which we first go over what a budget is, why its important and outline the process; the second half of the workshop is an interactive series of activities that result in an organizational budget

report reading & financial literacy
: why : many organizational decisions are based on financial information or the input from finance experts. however, most organizations do not have consistent financial literacy skills across members, resulting in a lack of full participation by many of its members in important strategic decisions. increasing financial literacy allows all members to more-fully participate in the organization's short and long-term decisions
: what : the workshop focuses on the four basic reports: profit and loss, balance sheet, budget and cash-flow projection. through a series of mini-lectures, games and other small-group activities, members walk away with an understanding of where to find important information for some of the most common organizational decisions

financial empowerment for women, queer & trans folks
: why : the traditional finance world is overwhelmingly dominated by cis-men, due to cultural narratives that cis-men are better with numbers and financial decision-making than women, queer and trans folks; these cultural biases often become internalized where-in women, queer and trans folks regularly opt out and step back from roles seen to be “better served” by cis-men. organizations looking to address systems of oppression can actively counter these systemic issues by creating empowering learning spaces for their women, queer and trans members
: what : the workshop is based on the above "report reading & financial literacy" with additional pieces focusing on personal empowerment; this workshop is closed to those who self-identify as women, queer and/or trans
